1. Schlitterbahn Waterpark – New Braunfels, Texas
When you think of a water park that has it all, Schlitterbahn comes to mind. Located in New Braunfels, Texas, it’s one of the largest and most beloved water parks in the country. As a family, we spent an entire day there, and trust me, it was hard to leave! From the world's first water coaster to its massive wave pool and lazy river, there's no shortage of fun. What makes Schlitterbahn stand out is its variety of rides that cater to all ages – whether you’re a thrill-seeker or prefer to float along a gentle stream.
The kids loved the Tornado, a high-speed water slide that takes you through a thrilling spiral before dropping into a giant funnel. My partner and I enjoyed the relaxing experience of the river tubing while keeping an eye on the little ones. The park also offers a fantastic area for younger children, so even the smallest family members can have their fun!

2. Aquatica Orlando – Orlando, Florida
If your family is headed to Orlando, Aquatica is a must-visit destination. As part of the SeaWorld Parks family, it’s a water park that brings both relaxation and adventure. We were especially excited about the aquatic life-themed attractions, like the Dolphin Plunge, where you actually ride through a tunnel surrounded by a habitat of black-and-white Commerson's dolphins.
The kids absolutely loved the Whanau Way, a family raft ride where you can glide down together in a raft. Meanwhile, we parents took turns relaxing in the lazy river, which circles the park’s tropical-themed areas. Aquatica offers a range of slides from exhilarating to relaxing, making it the perfect spot for families with kids of all ages!
3. Typhoon Lagoon – Orlando, Florida
Another great water park in Orlando is Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon. If you’re already planning a trip to Disney World, then this water park is an absolute must. It’s perfect for families who want a mix of exciting water attractions and Disney’s signature charm. One of the highlights here is the huge wave pool, where you can body surf on waves as tall as 6 feet. The thrill of catching those waves with my family made it a standout experience.
But the fun doesn’t stop there! The park also offers several water slides, like the Miss Adventure Falls, a family-friendly raft ride that takes you on a scenic, fun-filled journey. My kids loved exploring the water play area with mini slides and splash zones, while we enjoyed the relaxing Lazy River.
4. Water Country USA – Williamsburg, Virginia
Located in Williamsburg, Virginia, Water Country USA is a great family-friendly water park known for its lush, tropical atmosphere and thrilling rides. We visited here last summer, and I can say that it was one of the best experiences for our family. The park’s unique slides, like the Vanish Point, which features a near-vertical drop, are perfect for families looking for a little adrenaline.
For younger children, Water Country USA offers a designated kid's area called "Cow-A-Bunga," which has smaller slides and splash zones to ensure they feel safe and engaged. Meanwhile, adults can unwind in the lazy river or on the island oasis for a bit of relaxation away from the action. This park has something for everyone, from heart-racing thrills to gentle fun in the sun.
5. Hurricane Harbor – Six Flags Magic Mountain, California
Hurricane Harbor in Valencia, California, is one of the best water parks for families seeking a combination of water slides, wave pools, and thrilling attractions. We visited this park a few months ago and had a blast navigating the water attractions. The park is home to some of the steepest and fastest water slides in the country, including the Raging Rapids, which offers a rapid descent and sharp turns.
For the younger family members, the park also has areas dedicated to smaller kids, where they can splash around and explore without the worry of larger crowds or rougher rides. What I loved most about Hurricane Harbor is that it’s part of the Six Flags Magic Mountain experience, meaning we could enjoy both the theme park and water park in one visit!
6. Kalahari Resorts – Pocono Mountains, Pennsylvania
Kalahari Resorts in the Pocono Mountains, Pennsylvania, is a massive indoor water park perfect for families who want water fun year-round. This park offers over 220,000 square feet of water attractions, including water slides, lazy rivers, wave pools, and splash areas. We visited during a chilly winter weekend, and it was the perfect escape from the cold!
The indoor attractions meant that we didn't have to worry about the weather, and we could enjoy the slides and pools all day. The kids had an amazing time riding the FlowRider, a simulated surfing experience, while we parents took a more relaxed approach and enjoyed the hot tubs. Kalahari also has great dining options and family-friendly accommodations, making it an ideal spot for a weekend getaway.
7. LEGOLAND Water Park – Carlsbad, California
If your family is full of LEGO fans, then the LEGOLAND Water Park in Carlsbad, California, should definitely be on your list. This park is designed specifically for younger kids, but that doesn’t mean adults can’t have fun too! My kids were absolutely fascinated by the LEGO-themed attractions, including the Build-A-Raft River, where they could create their own LEGO raft to float down the river.
The water park also has a range of gentle slides, a splash area, and a wave pool. Parents can relax while their little ones explore the colorful, interactive water features. The park is smaller compared to others on this list, but it’s perfect for families with younger children who want a fun, themed experience without overwhelming rides.
