Sun-N-Fun Lagoon

1. Typhoon Lagoon - Orlando, Florida
Orlando, known as the theme park capital of the world, is home to Typhoon Lagoon, one of the most iconic water parks in the US. Located near Walt Disney World Resort, Typhoon Lagoon is a must-visit for families in or around Orlando. The park offers a range of attractions, from the thrilling "Crush ‘n’ Gusher" water coaster to the relaxing lazy river that winds through lush landscapes.
What sets Typhoon Lagoon apart is its massive wave pool, which generates some of the largest waves I’ve ever experienced. I remember my first time there—the anticipation before the waves hit was palpable, and when they did, it felt like being caught in the middle of a tropical storm! For families with younger kids, the "Ketchakiddee Creek" play area is perfect, offering shallow pools and mini water slides designed just for little ones.

Disney's Blizzard Beach Water Park

2. Six Flags Hurricane Harbor - Chicago, Illinois
If you find yourself in the windy city of Chicago during the summer, a short drive to Six Flags Hurricane Harbor will reward you with an entire day of water-filled fun. This water park, located in Gurnee, Illinois, offers a variety of slides and attractions for all ages. Whether you’re braving the "Tornado" slide, a thrilling funnel ride, or simply floating along the "Lazy River," there’s something for everyone.
One of the most memorable moments I had at Hurricane Harbor was riding the "Black Beards’ Revenge," a family raft slide that twists and turns you through dark tunnels. The sense of excitement was contagious as I could hear my family laughing and shouting from the raft ahead. Hurricane Harbor’s wave pool also provides a thrilling experience with waves that come crashing in every few minutes, giving visitors the feel of an ocean beach right in the middle of Illinois!
3. Aquatica - San Antonio, Texas
Located just outside of San Antonio, Aquatica is an impressive water park that combines adventure with relaxation. What I love about Aquatica is its range of attractions that cater to both adrenaline junkies and those looking for a peaceful day by the water. If you’re up for some thrills, try "Dolphin Plunge," where you zip through a waterslide that passes through a clear tube, giving you a glimpse of the park’s real dolphins as you slide down.
For families, Aquatica has a fantastic kids’ area called "Tassie’s Twisters," which is perfect for younger children to enjoy water activities at their own pace. One of my favorite experiences at Aquatica was lounging in the "Loggerhead Lane" lazy river, where I could just float along the water and enjoy the scenery. The park’s attention to detail, with its tropical theme and natural landscaping, makes it a great destination for a laid-back day with the family.
4. Raging Waters - San Dimas, California
If you're in Southern California and craving a water-filled adventure, Raging Waters in San Dimas is one of the largest water parks in the area. The park is known for its high-speed slides and large wave pools. During my visit, I couldn’t get enough of the "Aqua Rocket," a water coaster that shoots you down a series of twists and turns at breathtaking speeds. It was both thrilling and exhilarating!
Raging Waters also has attractions for younger kids, like "Little Dipper," a gentle water slide that provides a safe and fun ride for the little ones. The park’s "Amazon Adventure" river rafting ride was another highlight, where you and your family float through a lush jungle-themed area. With so many attractions to choose from, Raging Waters offers something for every family member, whether you're seeking high-energy thrills or a relaxing way to spend a hot day.
5. Wet ‘n Wild - Phoenix, Arizona
Located just outside of Phoenix, Wet ‘n Wild is a sprawling water park that offers a variety of slides, wave pools, and lazy rivers. This park is perfect for families looking to enjoy a mix of relaxation and adventure in the Arizona heat. One of my favorite experiences at Wet ‘n Wild was riding the "Constrictor," a high-speed slide that squeezes you through narrow tunnels, and "Raging Rapids," which sends you and your group down a turbulent water slide surrounded by steep curves.
For the younger ones, Wet ‘n Wild offers "Splash Island," a themed water playground with kid-friendly slides and water features. The park’s large wave pool, "Tornado," also delivers giant waves for those who want to feel like they’re at the beach without leaving the desert. Wet ‘n Wild is the perfect option if you're in the Phoenix area and craving a fun, water-filled day in the sun!
