South Bay Shores is a water park located within California's Great America, offering a range of attractions suitable for families with children. The park features slides and a wave pool. However, customer reviews indicate several issues. Shaded spots are limited and fill up quickly after opening. Several rides may be non-functional or experience breakdowns throughout the day. The park enforces strict rules on certain rides, particularly regarding footwear, which can be problematic due to hot concrete and direct sunlight in the lines. The wave pool area is described as chaotic, with no designated shoe storage and employees moving shoes haphazardly, leading to confusion and lost footwear. Overall, while South Bay Shores provides a place to cool off, it may not be worth it as a standalone water park experience. It is better suited as a quick break from roller coaster riding within California's Great America.

Key features of South Bay Shores include:

If you aren't there at opening, you prob won't get a shaded spot. Many, at least 3-4 rides were not functioning or would break down throughout the day. Seemed to be an issue throughout the whole park. They are extreme with rules on certain rides. They would not allow us to wear our sandals or even watershoes in the line of the ride. The issue with this is the concrete was extremely hot on bare feet and there were large portions of the line in direct sunlight. Obviously you can not ride with your shoes, however, in other parks they allow you to hold your shoes to your chest or in your lap as you go down. The wave pool area was shoe chaos! Everyone was leaving there shoes infront of the entrance and every so often the employees would just push/throw all the shoes further away from the entrance. (Keep in mind there is no sign or designated area for shoes) When people came out, they could not find their shoes (all the while, concrete burning their bare feet) and they would just take shoes that did not belong to them. And so on and so on. Utter chaos. Overall, as a Waterpark, not worth it. But as a quick place to cool off in between roller-coaster riding, sure ok.

South Bay Shores, the new waterpark at Great America, is a fantastic addition! The park's design is impressive, featuring new slides, restaurants, and plenty of seating. The wave pool and lazy river are especially enjoyable, catering to those who prefer a more relaxed experience. They offer convenient amenities like lockers, including extra-large ones, and cabanas available for rent. The Sand Bar next to the wave pool serves beer on tap and delicious flatbread pizza. Additionally, there's a Dip 'n Dots cart for tasty treats. Changing rooms and bathrooms are readily available, ensuring no long waits in line. However, some visitors have experienced frustratingly long lines at the restaurants, and the quality and pricing at Pier 76 were disappointing. On the bright side, Shark Bites provided a great experience with delicious food.

South Bay Shores is one not to be missed summer fun destination. The water park at the California Great America has multiple slides, boating like experience at the rushing river where you can lie down on a big inflatable tube, the tide pool offering experience of the ocean waves, sprinkles and bucket splash for kiddies to do some rain dance. The height of the slides varies for all ages. Though some of the big ones were closed when we visited. The South Bay shores is open only until Sep 4 2023. The park opens intermittently on weekends. Do check the calendar if you plan to go. Saturdays are usually the best days when the CGA is open until 10 while the waterpark closes at 6. So you can combine it with some other activities after that. The waterpark has plenty of changing rooms. It has a shop in case you forgot to carry any of your swimwear and locker facility for those wanting to secure their items before hitting the water. Waterproof lanyard with touch is highly recommended to capture some memories and keep your phone safe during the activities. Life jackets are available for all ages. Gold America Seasons pass members enter free. This waterpark is comparable or may be bigger than the one at Legoland. Happy summers!!

Open seasonally as part of great America. Nice place for kids to enjoy the water with several rides for little kids and a few harder rides for the bigger kids. Also has a couple of restaurants, including seafood options
